On October 29th, 2016 Fortis College-Phoenix Dental Hygiene Program’s Cohort 6, and their lead clinical instructor Ms. Janis McClelland, gave up their Saturday to do an outstanding job representing Fortis DH while serving as the interdisciplinary representatives of oral health at this year’s annual health fair.
Fortis students and faculty united with a mission to provide free, patient-centered health care services serving members of our community who are experiencing homelessness. This year they saw over 80 patients providing oral cancer screenings, oral hygiene education, instruction and referral and even some fluoride varnish treatments. Congratulations! You make us proud!
This event was made possible through a partnership that has developed between Fortis College Dental Hygiene Program and the Student Health Outreach for Wellness, better known as S.H.O.W. The SHOW clinic opened its doors in 2015.Their mission is to provide individualized, interdisciplinary health care for those experiencing homelessness in our community. The clinic is run entirely by students from the Arizona State funded universities with Fortis Dental Hygiene students serving to fulfill their oral health service needs.
