APA Guide: Citing Websites

Cite what you actually use

Make sure someone can find what part of a web page you used.

Find the main heading or section on the web page where you found your selection and put it in italics as below. Put the exact web address after "Retrieved from".

Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Date of publication). Title of document. Retrieved from http://Web address


Use identifiable, quotable text content from a web page. Avoid citing a homepage (vaguely) that links to or navigates to specific content, unless you are using or citing content only on a homepage. Example: Doing a paper on web design, IT, or computer science.
