Evaluating Sources: Peer reviewed?

What does "peer reviewed" Mean? (and why does it matter?)

A peer-reviewed article can be found in journals both online (found by using the LIRN databases) or in print. A journal is considered to be peer-reviewed if its articles go through an official editorial process that involves review and approval by the author’s peers (people who are experts in the same subject area, field, or industry).

You want to use peer-reviewed journals because they are considered the most accurate and reliable sources for college-level work. Using peer-reviewed journals is also a good way to learn how experts conduct research and share their findings. Knowing this process helps you become a critical thinker and acquire professional expertise.
