Resources from the National Library of Medicine: ClinicalTrials.gov

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) provides a wealth of resources available to the public. They include scholarly and consumer health materials.

ClinicalTrials.gov  is a website and online database of clinical research studies and information about their results. You can gain an introduction to clinical research,  including information on types of medical studies and what happens during a study. There is a glossary that explains frequently used words and phrases on ClinicalTrials.gov.

What Can I Do on ClinicalTrials.gov?

  • Find and view clinical studies. Conduct basic and advanced searches of clinical study records; browse studies; and search studies by topic, country, or region from the Find Studies  homepage.
  • Learn about clinical research. Find out how clinical studies are conducted and who can participate on Learn About Studies .
  • Manage study records. Study sponsors and investigators submit information about a clinical study to the ClinicalTrials.gov database through the Protocol Registration and Results System (PRS).  
  • Use site tools and data. Download study records for analysis. Visit the Data and API  section of the site.
