NIH is known worldwide for its “crowdsourced” storehouse of gene sequence information, GenBank . Scientists and researchers around the world use NLM's molecular biology databases to access GenBank and find DNA sequence information about humans, model organisms, bacteria and viruses.

MedlinePlus Genetics 

  • Explore the signs and symptoms, causes, and inheritance of over 1,300 health conditions.
  • Find information about the function of over 1,400 genes, and see how changes in these genes are related to health conditions. 
  • Read about each of the 23 pairs human chromosomes, and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA).
