Pensacola: Microsoft 365 (Office)

Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 65) provides a suite of productivity tools, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and other tools required for your class assignments. You can access your email, create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, and store files in OneDrive. 

Set Up Your Microsoft 365 (Office) Account

For new students, check your personal email account for your Fortis email address and temporary password.  

  1. In your browser, go to Office.com
  2. Choose SIGN IN
  3. Log in with your new Microsoft username (firstnamelastname@my.fortis.edu), then select Next
  4. Sign in with your temporary password, then select Sign In
  5. You will be prompted for more information to establish your account. This is a one time step. Select Next.
  6. For security purposes, you will need to create a 2-factor authentication method. Choose on "I want to set up a different method."
  7. Choose Phone as your method, then select Next
  8. Enter your cell phone number, then select Next. You should receive a confirmation text.
  9. Enter in the access code, then select Next
  10. You should receive a "Congratulations" message to confirm, then select Next
  11. You will need to set a new password
  12. Finally, you will be directed to your Microsoft 365 Dashboard.

Access Your Fortis Student Email Account

  1. In your browser, type the following URL: Office.com
  2. Choose SIGN IN
  3. Enter your Fortis email address (firstnamelastname@my.fortis.edu), then select NEXT
  4. Enter your password, then select SIGN IN
  5. Complete the authentication method to access your Fortis account
  6. On the left dashboard, select the OUTLOOK icon to access your Fortis student email account.

If you change your phone number or have issues with authentication, please contact your school or reach out to the Library Manager to reset your account!

Install Microsoft 365 (Office) Apps

With your Fortis Microsoft 365 account, you have access to the Microsoft 365 suite of apps (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)! If you do not have Word or PowerPoint installed on your computer, follow the set of instructions below.

  1. In your browser, type the following URL: Office.com
  2. Choose SIGN IN
  3. Enter your Fortis email address (firstnamelastname@my.fortis.edu), then select NEXT
  4. Enter your password, then select SIGN IN
  5. On the Microsoft 365 Dashboard, select INSTALL and More (top-right)
    • Select the drop-down and choose the first option, Install Microsoft 365 Apps
  6. Depending on your browser, select Setup (Chrome), Save File (Firefox), or Run (Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer)
    • If you see the User Account Control prompt that says "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?", select Yes.
    • This begins the Microsoft installation
  7. Your install in complete when you see the phrase, "You're all set! Office is installed now" and an animation plays to show you where to find Office applications on your computer. Select Close.
  8. To activate your Microsoft 365 account, open Word and sign-in with your Fortis email address and password and complete the prompts.

Print PowerPoint or Word Documents From Canvas

If you do not have the Microsoft 365 apps installed on your computer, please use the following steps to print PowerPoint or Word documents from Canvas. Please make sure you are able to login to your Canvas and Microsoft 365 accounts.

  1. Open Canvas (fortis.instructure.edu)
  2. Select COURSE
    1. Go to MODULES (Assignments)
    2. Select the PowerPoint or Word Document
    3. Download to computer (make a note where the file is downloaded)
  3. Open Office.com, then login with your Fortis credentials
    1. Select UPLOAD (bottom right)
    2. Files → Downloads → Select File
  4. After the file uploads, open the file then select Print
