Pensacola: Study Skills & Tips

Welcome to Fortis Pensacola's Library & Resource Center!

Helpful Study Skill Tips

  1. Find a quiet place to study where you can limit distractions.
  2. Make sure you are not hungry, tired, or stressed so you can stay focused. Clear your mind and take a moment to relax.
  3. Take breaks as needed whenever you feel overwhelmed or tired.
  4. Do not try to study too much at one time. Break down big tasks into smaller, more manageable parts.
  5. Study at a time of day when you're most productive--whether that's morning, afternoon, or late last night.
  6. Create a study schedule or outline to stay organized and on track.
  7. Study with friends or classmates to help each other understand difficult concepts.
  8. Give yourself a reward for studying!

  4. Review the notes from the previous day before class.
  5. Use different colors to distinguish between different concepts.
  6. Use notes to develop outlines and/or study guides.

Flash Cards

  1. Keep it simple. Do not put too much on the card as it can become overwhelming.
  2. Be concise. Keep your answers short and to the point.
  3. Include visuals. Draw diagrams, charts, or symbols to help you remember the material.
  4. Keep related concepts together to help link them.
  5. Give examples of a vocabulary word and not just the definition.
